Date: Tue, 9 Jul 2002 14:10:38 -0400 From: Bill Kretzschmar Subject: ACH/ALLC 2003 Local Arrangements Committee I am pleased to report that all is proceeding well towards next year's meeting in Athens, Georgia. ACH/ALLC 2003 will take place from May 29 (Thursday) through noon on June 2 (Monday), under the title "Web X: A Decade of the World Wide Web." There may be workshops before the regular meeting. The venue for both meeting space and lodging will be the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, a well- equipped residential conference center (http://www.gactr.uga.edu). The hotel rooms are modern and cheap--less than $70/night single, about $80/night double. Athens is a good town for eating and drinking and listening to music (the *New York Times* says so, not just me), and we are working on possible excursions to sights such as the Martin Luther King complex and Carter Center in Atlanta, plantation/antebellum home tour, and maybe even a Braves baseball game at Turner Field if the schedule works out right. I have not yet booked REM for the conference banquet but I have booked the space for it, the State of Georgia Botanical Garden. Athens is easy to get to, either through Atlanta (there are scheduled shutles direct to the Georgia Center), or to the Athens airport via USAir with a connection in Charlotte. The last weekend in May this year was about 90F (30+C), but the average temperature at that time is in the 80sF (upper 20sC). I'll have colorful brochures to show in Tuebingen.
