ACH Employment Committee Report - June 2005
The Committee has endeavored to keep the ACH jobs database up to
date. We undertook some research last year to locate additional
resources for finding out about open positions in our discipline.
The result of our survey indicated that most sources of relevant
information are too broad to be of significant use to the Committee,
and so we have continued to rely on Humanist and various direct
contacts with prospective employers.
The ACH Employment Committee renewed calls this year for
participation in the mentoring program. The mentoring program
currently has twenty-two registered mentors, with good
representation from academic departments, libraries, and industry.
We are currently serving eight mentees. Stephen Ramsay, chair of
the committee, has created a database for matching mentors to
mentees, and will make the database available to subsequent chairs.
We continue to work with the mentoring pool as a group, and we have
established some group activities for job seekers at this year's
ACH/ALLC conference in Victoria.
